Massel J. Abisror was born and raised in Miami Beach, Florida in 1975. She graduated from the University of Florida, with honors, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a minor in Criminology in 1997. Massel then earned her Juris Doctorate from the Florida State University College of Law in 2000 where she graduated with honors. She is a member of the Florida Bar and was admitted to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida in 2001.

While studying at the University of Florida for her undergraduate degree, Massel was involved in the Guardian Ad Litem program where she was involved in representing the interests of minors who were in foster homes for over two years. Additionally, while studying at Florida State University College of Law, Massel was involved in the Children’s Advocacy Center program for a year where she was assigned to assist in the defense of a minor, a 14 year old female, who was incarcerated in the adult prison system. Also while attending law school, Massel worked for Legal Aid for a semester participating in all aspects of general civil litigation on behalf of indigent individuals.

Since graduating law school, Massel has practiced in the area of civil litigation. During her first four years of practice, she worked as a plaintiff’s attorney focusing on products liability, negligence, and insurance coverage cases. She subsequently worked in the areas of insurance defense and medical malpractice for three years before joining Chimpoulis, Hunter & Riedhammer. She continues to practice insurance defense litigation focusing on property insurance, and first and third party insurance coverage.

As part of her practice at Chimpoulis, Hunter & Riedhammer, Massel has handled over a dozen Declaratory Judgment actions on behalf of the insurer seeking to preclude coverage on liability claims to date. She handles the defense of product liability actions, negligence (arising out of a motor vehicle accident) actions, premises liability actions, slip and fall actions, breach of contract actions and indemnification actions. Massel handles the preparation of coverage opinions on many issues such as the effect of a particular exclusion in a policy. She also defends insurance carriers in first party property insurance coverage cases and has successfully defended the insurance carriers in various trials alongside Brian Hunter.

Massel is a member of the Broward County Bar Association, the Florida Defense Lawyer’s Association, and Florida Medical Malpractice Claims Counsel. Massel is bilingual. Her second language is Spanish.
